SEPT/OCT LOBBY SHOW: Welcome to My World: A Glimpse into the Soul of Amy Achor

Our lobby show, “Welcome to My World: A Glimpse into the Soul of Amy Achor” is the new show gracing the lobby of Village Artisans. Says the artist, “This is basically a retrospective of work close to my heart, divided into distinct sections, including Vision Quest, Trees, Just Visiting, and Cats. What is new is my inclusion of explanations as to why the work is important to me, some of the ‘inner workings’ if you will.” Amy is also holding a drawing to give away three special pieces at the end of the show. The show is up now through October 31, 2023 during regular gallery hours, M-Th 11-5, Fr-Sa 11-6, and Su 12-5.

39th Annual Art on the Lawn

WHEN: Saturday, August 12, 2023, 10 am-5 pm

WHERE: Grounds of Mills Lawn School, 200 S. Walnut Street, Yellow Springs, Ohio

More than 100 artists from Ohio and beyond will gather under the shade trees at 200 S. Walnut St. in the heart of Yellow Springs, Ohio, to show and sell their original, fine arts and fine crafts at this year's Art on the Lawn on Saturday, August 12, from 10 am-5 pm, rain or shine. This popular, free, outdoor festival of art, food and music, now in its thirty-seventh year, is sponsored by Village Artisans Gallery of Yellow Springs. Both new and returning artists will present their ceramics, drawings, fiber art, garden art, glass, jewelry, leatherwork, mixed media, paper craft, paintings, photography and more. Food vendors and live music complement the outstanding, juried artwork.

Returning this year is Art on the Lawn's Featured Artist Kathy Woodruff, who won Best of Show at the 2022 Art on the Lawn.

Kathy Woodruff, from Beavercreek, grew up in art supply heaven, as her parents opened Busy Beaver Arts and Crafts in Beavercreek 47 years ago. “I made my first stained glass piece when I was 15,” she explained. She has focused on fused glass for the past 20 years. “I layer glass up on top of itself in pretty patterns and then I fire it in a kiln.”

A self-taught artist, Woodruff attends about 22 shows each year, all within eight hours of her home in Beavercreek.

Dogs and other pets are kindly requested to remain away from the fair. Typical August temperatures and crowds with children make the fair an unsafe place for pets.

Village Artisans, sponsor of Art on the Lawn, is a cooperative art gallery in Yellow Springs featuring locally-made, affordable hand crafted jewelry, woodworking, pottery, photography, paintings, drawings, fiber, glass, and mixed media art. Located at 100 Corry Street in Yellow Springs, Ohio, the regular gallery hours are Monday–Thursday 11 am-5 pm; Friday and Saturday 11 am-6 pm; and Sunday Noon-5 pm with extended hours for special events. JAN/FEB LOBBY SHOW: Clairvoyance

Our lobby show, "Clairvoyance," a solo photography show by member Ryan Taylor, has been hung in our Lobby Gallery. The show is up now through February 28, 2023 during regular gallery hours, M-Th 11-5, Fr-Sa 11-6, and Su 12-5. There will be an artist reception on Friday, January 20 from 6–8 pm, along with some other musical and art events that evening.

Clairvoyance is defined as “the supposed power to see objects or events that cannot be perceived by the senses.” Village Artisan photographer Ryan Taylor uses the camera as his paintbrush and the landscape as his canvas to “bring the viewer closer to seeing something entirely new.”

His photos feature “Intentional Camera Movement” (ICM), which is digital photography that combines color, texture, and form to create swirling and dizzying abstracts from out in nature. The subject matter captures tree foliage, water movements, and reflections as the camera is purposely moved around to achieve different results. Having the images printed on canvas further gives a painterly look and feel to the work
